Invite your Messenger group to Bluesky

Leaving a Facebook Messenger group? FbZip Chat Archive lets you read your export offline, then invite the same people to Bluesky — create a Bluesky group chat and/or send personal invite DMs. Private chat history is not republished to Bluesky.

What this feature does (and does not do)

Does

Send a new invite message; create a Bluesky group; optional join link; map archive names → @handles you enter.

Does not

Auto-match Facebook names to Bluesky; import Messenger message history into Bluesky; work without a paid Bluesky licence.

Which licence do I need?

  • Chat Archive Standard (~$69) — full offline archive only; no Bluesky invites.
  • Bluesky Standard (~$5) — posts + invites (1 Bluesky account).
  • FbZip Complete (~$89) — full chat archive + Agency posts + group invites (best value if you leave Meta entirely).
  • Bluesky Agency (~$30) — posts + invites for up to 10 accounts (no full chat extract).

Step-by-step

  1. Build or open a chat archive — see Messenger chat archive guide (web extract or free Windows app).
  2. In the offline viewer, open the conversation (family group, friends, etc.).
  3. Click Invite to Bluesky in the thread toolbar.
  4. Your browser opens /webv/ → sign in if prompted → Invite chat to Bluesky page.
  5. Review the default invite message; set the Bluesky group name.
  6. For each archive participant name, enter their Bluesky handle (e.g. name.bsky.social) — names from Meta are not auto-matched.
  7. Choose delivery: Create group + DM each person (recommended), group only, or DMs only.
  8. Enter your Bluesky handle and App Password (with chat permissions). Use Dry run first.
  9. Click Send invites. Recipients accept the group invite or open your DM in the Bluesky app.

Delivery modes

  • Create group + DM each person — Creates the Bluesky group, posts a welcome message with join link, and sends each person a personal invite DM.
  • Create group only — Group + welcome post; no individual DMs.
  • Direct message each person — Invite text in DMs only; no group.

Up to 49 invited members per group (besides you).

Privacy and support

  • Only your invite text is sent — not years of Messenger messages.
  • Do not paste App Passwords or full exports into support chat.
  • If someone does not receive a DM, check Bluesky message requests, blocks, and whether they follow you (Bluesky chat rules vary).
